Japan's meteorological authorities have lifted a tsunami advisory following a significant earthquake in the northeastern part of the country. The quake, originally registered as a magnitude 6.7, was updated to 6.9 by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The temblor struck off the coast of Aomori Prefecture at 11:44 a.m. local time, with a depth of 20 kilometers. It followed a larger, 7.5-magnitude seismic event that impacted the same region earlier in the week.

In response to Monday's earthquake, officials issued warnings across a wide area, alerting residents to the increased likelihood of further tremors. The latest quake on Friday was measured at a level 4 on Japan's seismic intensity scale.
