Detroit — About 40 years ago, Chris Webber and Mike Jackson, a couple of 12-year-olds from Detroit, became friends. Basketball was their bond.

Jackson grew up a block away from the University of Detroit Mercy’s Calihan Hall, and he and Webber spent countless hours there shooting basketballs and working out. Sometimes they’d climb up toward the top of the arena and take it all in.
