Captain Phillip Shelton began his fire service career in 1975 with the Charleston volunteer fire department and would spend the rest of his life serving his community with honor and dedication.
He's remembered for his strength, determination, and perseverance, but most of all, his leadership.
"He was a really big mentor,” says Jeff Stewart, Bradley County Fire Chief. “He loved to teach the guys. He was big on that. He really had a great attitude, and he always wanted to teach you."
Corey Davis, Bradley County Deputy Chief, says Captain Shelton was full of laughter and loved to joke around.
“He was always happy. You never saw him get down. He was always smiling,” Davis says. “Every time you saw him, he was always smiling and cutting up with somebody. I’d never seen a bad side of P
