President Donald Trump on Monday unveiled a $12 billion aid package to support the country’s farmers, struggling after a year of shifting trade policy, rising costs and low crop prices that led to a rise in farm bankruptcies nationwide.

Introduced during an event with farmers at the White House, the bailout includes $11 billion in one-time payments through a federal program that supports growers of row crops, including soybeans, rice, wheat and others.

The remaining $1 billion in funding is reserved for producers of crops not covered by that program.
