Bangladesh appears to be sliding into one of its most volatile phases in recent memory, with Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party announcing an outright rejection of the upcoming elections . In a strongly worded statement, the Awami League has accused Muhammad Yunus’s interim government of operating as a ‘killer-fascist’ clique incapable of holding free and fair polls.

"The Bangladesh Awami League has reviewed the election schedule announced by the illegal, occupying, killer-fascist Yunus clique's illegal Election Commission. It is now clear that the current occupying authority is entirely biased and that under their control, it is impossible to ensure a fair and normal environment where transparency, neutrality, and the people's will can be reflected," it said in a statement.
