Kris Sanchez was 7 or 8 the first time he saw an American Girl doll , and he was terrified. He remembers staring at it, heart racing, thinking, “What is that thing?”

It wasn’t long before his best friend Marina, who had introduced him to the dolls, showed him the catalogs, filled with historical stories and detailed character backgrounds. By the end of that first afternoon looking through them, he was hooked.
