Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2) reacts after making a basket against the Golden State Warriors in the fourth quarter at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California, on Dec. 2, 2025.

Through 25 games, no team in NBA history has been better than this season's edition of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

With their dominant, 49-point victory Wednesday, Dec. 10 over the Phoenix Suns, the Thunder tied the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors for the best 25-game start in NBA history, opening the 2025-26 season an astounding 24-1. And while the Warriors went on to start the 2015-16 season 29-1, OKC is thumping teams at a rate we have never seen.

The Thunder set an NBA record last season for largest average scoring margin (12.9 points). Yet, through a team’s first 25 games to start a season, the 2007-08 Boston Celtics had posted the league’s top mark in that stat, at 13.9.

The Thunder are obliterating that figure this season, outscoring opponents by an absurd 17.5 points per game. Their victory Wednesday night marked their 17th by a margin of at least 10 points.

What makes this all the more fascinating is that, because of injuries, the Thunder’s preferred starting five of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luguentz Dort, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein haven’t played a single minute together so far this season.

Making this doubly fascinating is that Gilgeous-Alexander and other Oklahoma City stars have sat out entire fourth quarters of several games because they have been up by so many points. In fact: Wednesday night against the Suns marked the 13th time this season that Gilgeous-Alexander rested the entire fourth quarter, which is two more than the ones he has had to play in (11).

Despite that, Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning league MVP, still leads all NBA players in clutch points with 87, which is 8 more than the Detroit Pistons' Cade Cunningham, the next closest player.

Taking that one step further: despite all the extra rest, SGA still ranks second among all NBA players in overall scoring, averaging 32.6 points per game.

Oklahoma City is on historic pace and is set to face the San Antonio Spurs Saturday, Dec. 13 in the NBA Cup West semifinal. The Thunder are looking to win their first NBA Cup after the Milwaukee Bucks eliminated them in last season’s final.

If the Thunder win the NBA Cup and march on to eventually repeat as NBA champions, we may be witnessing the most prolific season in NBA history.
