Story time with Sterling Heights Lions Club member Reggie Alvarado was a special treat for children and families at last week’s pancake brunch with Santa. Alvarado, who became blind shortly after birth, read Christmas and winter stories to children using braille books from the Macomb County Library for the Blind and Print Disabled.

The library and Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester are two of the entities that Lions clubs support.

Alvarado offered to wash dishes at the breakfast, but it was thought that with so many volunteers moving around the clubhouse kitchen that morning, they should come up with an alternate plan for her volunteerism.
