Sofia: The Bulgarian parliament on Friday voted unanimously to approve the resignation of Prime Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov-led government, which had assumed office in January, local media reported.
As many as 227 lawmakers voted in favour of the resignation in the 240-member National Assembly. The parliament’s decision came after Zhelyazkov announced the government’s resignation on Thursday following mass protests in Bulgaria against the ruling majority and particularly, Movement for Rights and Freedoms – New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski and GERB-UDF leader Boiko Borissov, Bulgaria-based The Sofia Globe reported.
Zhelyazkov and other members of the Cabinet were not present in the National Assembly for the two-hour debate held before the vote.
