A cyclist who was hit by a car in North Tyneside has been taken to hospital, police have confirmed. A huge police cordon has been in place on Monkseaton Front Street between The Ship Inn/Spar and Pykerley Road since shortly before 9am on Friday.
Collision investigation teams remain on the scene, while residents and local businesses have told ChronicleLive of their shock in seeing such a huge police presence in the area. The cyclist, a woman in her 30s, has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
Her injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.
