WASHINGTON — On Friday, Mayor Muriel Bowser activated a Cold Alert for the District of Columbia starting at 7 a.m. and ending 24 hours later. This means D.C. will open Hypothermia Shelters to ensure that there are warm and safe places for those who are unhoused.
An interactive map of available shelters for men, women, and those in the LGBTQ+ community can be found here . From November through March, free transportation to and from a shelter or day center is available to individuals experiencing homelessness 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To request free, accessible transportation, call the Shelter Hotline at 202-399-7093 or dial 311. If you believe there is an immediate medical emergency, call 911.
