Robert Griffin III got some good news. FOX chose him to serve as the color commentator for the Carolina Panthers vs. New Orleans Saints game this weekend. He’ll be in the booth with Jason Benetti during the late broadcast. This is a major step for Griffin after spending the season in FOX’s No. 2 college football booth.

Before joining FOX, Griffin worked for years at ESPN as both a studio analyst and a college football commentator. ESPN let him go last year, and he quickly made the jump to FOX. He and Benetti called college games all season, and now the network is giving them a chance to call an NFL game as the season heads into its final stretch.

Griffin said this assignment means a lot to him. New Orleans is special because his family lives there, he played his first NFL game there
