Fresh data from the RBI Handbook of Statistics on Indian States highlights a clear divide between India’s largest economies in terms of absolute output and those that lead on per-capita income.

Maharashtra leads the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) chart at ₹45.3 lakh crore, followed by Tamil Nadu at ₹31.1 lakh crore. While Uttar Pradesh’s GSDP of ₹29.7 lakh crore places it ahead of Karnataka (₹28.8 lakh crore), UP ranks lower on per-capita income—at just ₹1.08 lakh.

A different picture emerges when ranking states by per-capita Net State Domestic Product (NSDP). Delhi tops the country with a per-capita NSDP of ₹4.93 lakh—well above Maharashtra’s ₹3.09 lakh. Telangana (₹3.87 lakh), Karnataka (₹3.80 lakh) and Tamil Nadu (₹3.61 lakh) also feature among the top income performers.
