A New Haven City Councilman and a future firefighter were honored today for serving the community in ways that would have made the late Jerry and Linda Vandeveer proud.

Craig Dellinger was awarded the the 2025 Linda and Jerry Vandeveer Impact Award for more than four decades of community service, most of which was before he joined council 13 years ago. The Vandeveer Impact Award was created by the Allen County commissioners in 2016 to recognize an individual or group who has performed outstanding acts of community service.

The Allen County commissioners also joined Gerald Vandeveer II, son of the award's namesakes, in awarding the first Jerry and Linda Vandeveer Public Safety Scholarship for graduating high school seniors planning a career as a police officer, firefighter or emergency me
