COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is warning residents not to rely on answers generated by artificial intelligence (AI) when interpreting the state's hunting and fishing laws.

The agency released a short statement about the issue of bad answers on search engines and other AI-generated answers, warning that answers from sites not managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources may contain incorrect information. In some cases, this could be due to websites and AI systems pulling from outdated information, even though the laws have changed.

The state agency urged the public to use the South Carolina Hunting & Fishing Regulations Guide as the primary source for laws governing these outdoor activities.
