TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has new guidance on the vaccine schedule for infants.

Now, the agency is recommending the Hepatitis B vaccine be administered no earlier than two months. The new schedule rolls back a universal recommendation to start Hepatitis B immunization from birth, which has been standard practice for more than 30 years.

Vaccination happens in stages, and full immunization involves three shots: one given at birth, the second given one to three months later, and the final dose administered at six to 15 months. The panel has also voted to recommend testing children’s antibodies levels after each vaccination to determine whether additional doses are needed; that means some babies may get one or two shots instead of the standard three
