After Trump's election win last November, California governor Gavin Newsom lurched to the right, hanging out with MAGA weirdos and adoping anti-trans talking points. But after finding surer footing mocking Trump on social media and countering Texas's Republican gerrymander, he's suddenly popped up on the left, making a show of supporting trans kids and mocking Elon Musk for his transphobia.

"We're sorry your daughter hates you, Elon," Newsom's press office wrote in response to a clip posted by Musk's America PAC of the lefty presidential hopeful bragging about passing more pro-trans laws than any other governor.
