Former Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens has been fired as the offensive coordinator for the North Carolina Tar Heels, according to reports.

Kitchens, who joined UNC’s program in 2023, just finished his first season as OC under head coach Bill Belichick. The Tar Heels’ offense averaged 288.8 yards per game this season, which ranked 129th out of 134 Division I FBS teams. UNC finished the season with a 4-8 record.

Kitchens previously served as the Tar Heels’ interim head coach in the Fenway Bowl in 2024 after head coach Mack Brown was fired. Prior to that, he served as UNC’s run game coordinator and tight ends coach for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
