SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The end of 2025 is expected to set a near-holiday travel record.
According to AAA, over 122.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the holiday period. This year’s forecast is a 2.2% increase over 2024, which surpasses last year’s record of 119.7 million travelers.
In South Dakota, more than 388,000 people will be traveling during the holidays, up 1% from last year. Nearly 92% of South Dakotans will drive to their destinations.
About 17,000 South Dakotans will travel by air, while another 16,000 will go on cruises or travel by train or bus.
AAA reports that the top travel destinations domestically for the holidays are:

Miami
LA
Honolulu
