The latest round of India-US trade talks in New Delhi has revived expectations of a breakthrough after multiple missed deadlines. But according to Jayant Dasgupta, India’s former Ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the trajectory of the negotiations will be shaped less by diplomacy and more by a legal verdict that could upend the current tariff regime.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Dasgupta said the ongoing case before the US Supreme Court on the legality of Trump-era tariffs is the biggest “overhang” delaying the conclusion of the agreement.
