The Seattle Sounders and longtime goalkeeper Stefan Frei have agreed to a new contract, according to a report by The Athletic’s Tom Bogert on Friday morning.

Frei, who turns 40 next April, was out of contract following the 2025 season. He will return for his 13th season with Seattle in 2026.

Frei has won two MLS Cups with the Sounders (2016, 2019), along with a Supporter’s Shield (2014), a U.S. Open Cup (2014) and a CONCACAF Champions Cup (2022). He’s the club’s all-time leader in matches played, with more than 400 appearances across all competitions.

Across 351 career MLS regular-season matches with Seattle, Frei has recorded 105 shutouts and 1.16 goals allowed per 90 minutes. This past season, Frei allowed 31 goals in 26 regular-season matches, while posting a 72.1% save percentage
