MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- The two people killed in a crash on Highway 99 in Madera County have been identified as 37-year-old Lucas Ramirez Santiago and 29-year-old Catalina Monjaraz Santiago.

The crash happened at 6:30 p.m. Thursday near Avenue 11, just south of the city of Madera.

California Highway Patrol officers say the driver of a Honda Civic made a sudden move near the big rig.

"For an unknown reason, the driver of the Honda Civic lost control of the vehicle and went into the path of the big rig driver," Sergeant Sal Concreras said. "The big rig driver applied its brakes, but didn't have time to avoid the collision and went into the side of the Honda."
