Machinery is working in a southeast London farm field near Highway 401, as the city moves ahead with its plan to house homeless Londoners in tiny shelters on the site.

Excavators are on site at 1710 Wilton Grove Rd., near the intersection of Max Brose Drive and Cheese Factory Road, and the area has been closed to traffic. Work to mark water and electricity connections also has been conducted.

Not only is it difficult to construct something in a farm field with soft, fertile soil, but recent frigid, snowy weather adds to the difficulty, according to city hall’s director of water, wastewater, and stormwater, who is overseeing construction.
