Clad in white, jail-issued shirt and pants, Sherrone Moore softly shook his head and spoke only to state his name and answer two questions with, "Yes, your honor."

The Dec. 12 video feed from the Washtenaw County Jail into a district courtroom during Moore's arraignment gave the public its first glimpse of the fired University of Michigan head football coach since his abrupt termination and subsequent arrest on suspicion of felony home invasion and misdemeanor charges of stalking and breaking and entering.

Moore, 39, was the rising coach of one of the nation's most powerful college football teams only days prior. The Citrus Bowl-bound Wolverines finished their 2025 regular-season schedule at 9-3, with a promising recruiting class on the horizon.

But on Dec. 10, Moore's termination and arrest painted him as a troubled leader embroiled in an investigation into an inappropriate relationship with one of his own subordinates. Here's a timeline of how the week leading up to the filing of criminal charges against Moore unfurled.

Monday, Dec. 8: Michigan staffer breaks up with Moore

A female member of the Michigan athletics staff breaks up with Moore in the morning after the two had "an intimate relationship for a number of years," said Kati Rezmierski, the first assistant prosecutor in Washtenaw County, Michigan, during Moore's Dec. 12 arraignment.

Moore continues to make numerous unwanted phone calls and send numerous unwanted texts to the defendant, according to Rezmierski.

Wednesday, Dec. 10: Staff member cooperates with Michigan investigation

The staff member presents herself to the University of Michigan at an unknown time Dec. 10 and cooperates "in some form of investigation," according to Rezmierski.

Michigan officials later reveal that they had launched an internal investigation into allegations that Moore entered into an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, and later say the investigation remains ongoing.

Wednesday, Dec. 10: Sherrone Moore is fired as Michigan football coach

At an unknown time Wednesday, Moore is fired by athletic director Warde Manuel.

4:10 p.m. ET, Wednesday Dec. 10: Police are called to woman's apartment

The Pittsfield Township Police Department responds to a call "for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault," according to a statement issued by the police department.

At some point after his firing, Moore arrives at the defendant’s unlocked apartment and "barges in," according to Rezmierski. Moore immediately proceeds to a kitchen drawer, grabs several butter knives and a pair of kitchen scissors and begins to threaten his own life, according to Rezmierski. Moore, according to Rezmierski, tells the defendant, “I’m going to kill myself. I’m going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You ruined my life.”

Moore makes a series of "very, very threatening, intimidating, terrifying, quite frankly, statements and behaviors in that apartment," Rezmierski said.

Moore leaves only after the defendant calls her attorney and indicates she is going to call the police.

4:34 p.m. ET, Dec. 10: Michigan releases a statement announcing Moore's firing

Michigan officials announce that Moore was fired for cause. In a statement, Manuel said a university investigation found "credible evidence" that "Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member."

Wednesday, Dec. 10 afternoon and evening: Ward arrested, evaluated at hospital

Moore, according to the Pittsfield Township Police Department, is located by police shortly after they were called to the apartment, in the area of Willis and Bishop Roads in Saline. Moore is taken into custody without incident; transported to a local hospital for evaluation; and at the conclusion of the evaluation, Moore is lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending a review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, according to police.

8:30 p.m. ET, Wednesday Dec. 10: Sherrone Moore is booked into a Michigan jail

Moore is booked Washtenaw County Jail, where he remained until his arraignment at 1 p.m. ET Dec. 12.

1 p.m. ET, Friday, Dec. 12: Moore appears remotely for his arraignment

Moore appears in front of a district court judge for his arraignment on three criminal allegations. A second hearing is set for Jan. 22, and Moore is later released from jail after posting $25,000 bond, conditions of which were stated during the hearing. No plea to the charges is entered during the hearing.
