Two men have died after they were found in a southeast Edmonton neighbourhood early Friday morning suffering from what police say they believe were gunshot wounds.

In a news release issued Friday afternoon, police said officers were called to the area of 32nd Street and 26th Avenue at 1:43 a.m. after someone reported hearing gunshots.

Police said when officers arrived, they found two injured men believed to be in their 20s. They said officers did what they could to try to save the men’s lives until paramedics arrived and took over lifesaving efforts. However, the two men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the deaths are deemed suspicious and homicide detectives are now investigating. Autopsies have been scheduled for next week.
