CARY, N.C. —
The Furman men's soccer team's unforgettable, historic campaign came to a close in the College Cup semifinal on Friday night, as the 16th-seeded Paladins fell to Washington, 3-1.
It was their first-ever trip to college soccer's grandest stage -- the sport's equivalent of the Final Four in head coach Doug Allison's 31st and final season.
The Paladins reached the national semifinal after capturing the SoCon Tournament title, their 11th under Allison, and rattling off three straight NCAA Tournament wins decided by a single goal, including their Sweet 16 triumph over Hofstra in penalty kicks.
But Furman found themselves on their back foot against a physical, attacking side in the Huskies, who reached the 2021 final before losing to Clemson.
