EVERETT — The Everett City Council voted Wednesday to expand the city’s Downtown Improvement District, bringing a number of properties into the fold of a public-private partnership that provides cleaning services within the downtown core.

The district, known as a business improvement area, collects rates from property owners within the area to pay for business-related services like marketing, trash collection and graffiti removal.

The Downtown Improvement District, first created in 1995 and centered around Colby Avenue, has previously been expanded three times to include a significantly larger area of downtown Everett. It encompasses an area stretching largely from Everett Avenue to Pacific Avenue north to south, and from West Marine View Drive to Broadway west to east.
