SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -Hypothermia can affect children and the elderly in temperatures as warm as 40 degrees, and with temperatures as cold as they will be this weekend, it can impact adults in just a few minutes.
Health experts recommend layering clothing to maintain body temperature. Austin Monk, who lives in Ozark, Missouri said he uses a specific layering system.
“Usually like to put a thin thermal on then I usually do a like a light jacket and then a heavy coat, and that usually keeps me pretty warm,” Monk said.
Health experts recommend starting with a thin layer, such as a shirt, and gradually building up, finishing with a thick winter jacket. Wearing a hat and gloves protects all exposed skin.
