The Komets gave up three goals in the final two minutes and 19 seconds and fell 5-4 to the Kansas City Mavericks on Friday at Memorial Coliseum.

Forward Matthew Brown triggered this year’s teddy bear toss, scoring on a breakaway just 4:35 into the game to make it 1-0 Komets. Players and staff collected stuffed animals that are set to be donated to kids in need for the holidays.

The Komets added to their lead with forward Trevor Janicke scoring on a rebound with 8:21 to go until intermission, then on a rebound goal by forward Odeen Tufto in the final minute of the first to make it 3-0. Fort Wayne could have easily been up more, outshooting the Mavericks 18-3 in the first. Forwards Blake Murray and James Stefan both had shots go off the post.
