Friday morning, Rogers signed Mark Shapiro to a five-year contract. A few hours later, Shapiro returned the favour, signing Rogers to a three-year deal.

The Blue Jays’ billionaire owner, Edward Rogers, took care of Shapiro’s extension, then Shapiro’s baseball operations department reportedly got Tyler Rogers to agree to head north. The Jays had not confirmed the deal late Friday but the submarining right-hander is expected to get $37 million (U.S.) over the next three seasons, with a vesting option for 2029.

Rogers, who turns 35 on Wednesday, joins Louis Varland and Yimi Garcia as the main right-handed setup relievers to closer Jeff Hoffman , with Brendan Little and Mason Fluharty pitching in high-leverage from the left side.
