PHOENIX (AZFamily) — House Republicans revealed Friday a new plan they say addresses the real drivers of health care costs, but it does not extend pandemic-era subsidies that expire next month.
The Republican package would expand association health plans so small businesses and people who are self-employed can join together to buy coverage and theoretically lower the costs of benefits.
Critics say those plans tend to be less generous than ones on the Affordable Care Act.
Another provision would fund cost-sharing payments meant to lower out-of-pocket costs for certain people using the ACA, but it wouldn’t take effect until 2027.
Although GOP leaders did not include an extension of ACA subsidies, they are expected to allow a floor vote on an amendment related to them.
