FORT WORTH – Friday’s Class 4A Division I state semifinal between the Celina and Stephenville football teams was packed with enough ebbs and flows to fill an amusement park, with two of the classification’s best entrenched in a stalemate down to the final seconds of regulation from Knight Stadium.
But for the Bobcats, that roller coaster ended in heartbreak as Yellow Jackets kicker Brighton DeVivo converted a 45-yard field goal with just two ticks remaining in the ballgame – Stephenville’s first lead of the night, and the only one it’d need in a 24-21 victory to spell the end of Celina’s state title defense in the penultimate round of the postseason.
