CHARLESTON, W.Va. — On Dec. 2, the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia granted an expedited motion to stay all further proceedings and the enforcement of a permanent injunction issued by a Raleigh County Circuit Court in a vaccine exemption case.

Last month, Raleigh County Circuit Judge Michael Froble had ruled that children of families who object to the state’s compulsory vaccination law on religious grounds would be allowed to attend school and participate in extracurricular sports.

After Froble’s ruling, the West Virginia Board of Education removed a directive barring county school boards from accepting religious exemptions to the state’s compulsory vaccination laws. The directive was reinstated after the Supreme Court ruling.
