FREMONT, Neb. —

The City of Fremont responded to concerns over discolored water on social media Friday.

The city says it is "actively working" on the situation. Crews are flushing the system to remove sediment and restore water quality.

According to the Facebook post, cold temperatures and daytime schedules are creating additional challenges and may slow progress. It says the water is continuously tested, and remains in compliance with state standards. There are no health hazards and the water remains safe.

Fremont encourages people with discolored water to run their taps until it clears. However, the city warns it may not be effective in areas where hydrants have not yet been flushed.
