SVP president Teresa Ryan said the new poverty group was emerging as the organisation carried out home visits and found people falling behind on payments they could once afford, such as school fees or electricity bills.
Home visitation is the starting point for the range of supports provided to people in need by St Vincent de Paul (SVP), Ms Ryan says.
Through visitation, volunteers gain a more complete understanding of what individuals and families need.
