US President Donald Trump is reportedly exploring a new elite ‘C5’, or ‘Core Five’ -- a forum of world powers that would bring America, Russia, China, India and Japan on one platform with a view to sideline the Europe. While there has been no official confirmation, the US news outlet Politico indicated that the idea for this focused group originated in a lengthier, unpublished draft of the National Security Strategy (NSS) which the White House released the previous week.

However, Politico said that it was unable to independently verify the existence of this extended NSS version.

The speculated rationale behind establishing the C5 is to create a council of major world powers that would not be constrained by the G7’s typical criteria, which mandate that member nations must be both wealthy
