The higher education landscape in India will undergo significant changes. On Friday, the Union Cabinet approved a bill to create a singular and centralized governing body for higher education in India by replacing several existing organizations, such as UGC, AICTE, and NCTE.

The proposed legislation which was earlier christened the Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) Bill has now been named Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhikshan Bill. The intent behind the new regulatory agency is to help make the way higher education works in India easier for all those involved in the process.
