A stretch of the A46 has been forced to close this morning following a serious collision in the early hours.

Emergency services have been on scene since shortly after 1am, with Leicestershire Police leading a detailed collision investigation supported by fire crews other responders. Forensic officers have also been gathering evidence at the scene.

The southbound lane between the A6006 in Asfordby and the A607 in East Goscote, near Leicester , is estimated to stay closed until at least midday, with the possibility of the closure extending into the afternoon. 08:02 Zahra Khaliq

Diversion route in place

Road users are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol:

Exit the A46 southbound at the A46/A6006 Dalby Interchange.

Turn right onto the A6006 heading south-east and
