TAOS, N.M. —

The New Mexico Department of Transportation announced it now has a plan to raise the railing at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge outside of Taos.

It followed a rally Friday near the bridge, where community members, law enforcement, advocates and those who have lost loved ones to suicide gathered, demanding immediate changes to prevent further tragedies.

"This is not something that can be pushed any further. This isn't. The can has already been kicked too far," said one speaker.

Speakers from local organizations, including a youth media group called True Kids One Taos, emphasized the urgent need for action. "We cannot continue to let lives be lost to this bridge," they said.
