CHARLESTON — Police say an ordinary first date later ended in a man’s arrest when he allegedly followed the woman home, broke into her West Ashley house and pinned her to a wall.

Unknown to the woman, according to her mother, was that the man had been accused in 2023 of sexually assaulting one woman and attempting to kill another, as well as creating nonconsensual sexual recordings of those women.

Charleston Police arrested Walter Clayton Pate III , 29, on Dec. 10. He is charged with first-degree assault and battery, first-degree burglary and kidnapping.
