A County Durham axe-throwing venue, which recently celebrated its sixth anniversary, has announced its sudden closure just days before Christmas.

The Newton Aycliffe based company Valhalla North first opened in 2019, but has now entered liquidation in what has been described as "a sad day in the world of axe throwing".

Named after the enormous hall in Asgard according to Norse mythology, Valhalla was created by partners Carl Howe and Kathryn Brown and named to honour Carl's involvement with Kynren.

A statement on the business's Facebook page, posted on Friday, December 12, said: "Unfortunately Valhalla North Ltd has entered into liquidation and the venue is now closed permanently. A full statement will be made in the coming days.
