BROOKLYN, Ohio — A man wanted for attempted murder in Brooklyn died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday afternoon as officers moved in to arrest him, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.
The release says U.S. Marshals attempted to take 24-year-old Dionte Hawthorne Jr. into custody at a home on Northridge Oval, just south of Biddulph Avenue. Hawthorne had been sought by the Brooklyn Police Department after an early-morning shooting inside an apartment on that same street.
According to U.S. Marshals, before 6 a.m., police said Hawthorne entered the apartment without permission and encountered two people. He shot a man twice and threatened to shoot a woman before leaving. Brooklyn police contacted federal task force members sho
