Nuclear energy has been a growing interest worldwide, and the Palmetto state is no exception.
On Dec. 9, the University of South Carolina hosted the second annual South Carolina Nuclear Summit.
The revitalization of the VC Summer plant in Fairfield County was a primary topic of discussion throughout the day. Construction on the VC Summer plant originally began in 2013, though it was halted indefinitely in 2017. This year, plans have been made to restart the project.
Richard Snook, Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Canada, presented the economic development and workforce impact findings for the ongoing VC Summer project.
Snook shared that the plant would support 2,700 jobs in the state over 80 years — 1000 jobs at the plant itself, and another 1,700 jobs through indirect effects,
