The University of Northern Colorado Board of Trustees approved the contract of new wrestling head coach Teyon Ware at a meeting Friday on campus in Greeley.

Ware was hired in July to replace longtime coach Troy Nickerson, who left earlier in the summer for the same position at Army West Point.

Ware’s five-year deal includes a base salary of $97,325 and runs through June 30, 2030, according to the employment agreement provided to the board of trustees. The coach is eligible for standard exempt employee compensation adjustments.

He started work July 1.

Ware was a two-time NCAA champion at the University of Oklahoma and a four-time All-American, meaning he finished in the top eight at the NCAA Tournament. Ware won titles at 141 pounds in 2003 and 2005. He finished sixth in 2004 and second
