JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Jackson County residents should be wary of official looking invoices instructing them to make urgent wire transfer payments.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert Friday, Dec. 12, warning residents that police have identified a new scam circulating the county involving official looking documents that appear to come from Jackson County government offices.

These documents, often formatted to look like official invoices or urgent notices, instruct recipients to make payments via wire transfer.

These requests are scam as county offices will never request payment by wire transfer, nor will it demand electronic transfers through email-based or mailed invoices, Jackson County Sheriff Gary Schuette said.
