LEWISTON, Idaho – One person is dead after a U-Haul exploded in a parking lot near Nez Perce Drive in Lewiston, according to information Lewiston Police Captain Chris Reese shared with the Lewiston Tribune.

Reese said the explosion was reported in the morning.

The department responded alongside firefighters and found one person dead in the driver's seat of the car. The U-Haul was destroyed and damaged.

“No risk to the public,” Reese told the Lewiston Tribune.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

Businesses in the area are still open, but people should avoid the area of the explosion, Reese told the Tribune.
