Donald Trump has vowed that the US “will retaliate” after two American soldiers and one civilian were killed in a suspected Islamic State (IS) attack in Syria.
Three other service members were injured during the “ambush by a lone Isis gunman”, the US Central Command said in a post on X .
It added that the attacker had been “engaged and killed”.
“This is an Isis attack,” the US president told reporters at the White House on Saturday.
After paying condolences to those killed in the attack, Trump said the three others who were wounded “seem to be doing pretty well”.
In an earlier post on Truth Social, Trump said “there will be very serious retaliation”.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack and the gunman’s identity has not been released.
