About a quarter of all Wisconsin public school districts have a pool, according to state data.
License records from the Department of Trade and Consumer Protection show that about a hundred of Wisconsin's 421 school districts have at least one licensed swimming pool. Some districts have more than one, bringing the total number of school pools in Wisconsin to over a hundred.
For those schools that can offer aquatics, Wisconsin state teaching standards include swimming because of the state's "long history of water-based recreational attractions," according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
