A United Airlines flight heading to Tokyo was compelled to return to Dulles International Airport due to an engine failure, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported. United Flight 803, a Boeing 777-200, safely landed back at the airport, with no injuries among the 275 passengers and 15 crew members on board.
The FAA announced plans to investigate the incident, which occurred shortly after the plane's departure. United Airlines noted the aircraft had experienced a significant loss of power in one of its engines, prompting the emergency return.
United Airlines is arranging for the affected passengers to resume their journey to Tokyo later on Saturday using a different aircraft, ensuring minimal disruption to their travel plans.
