GRAVETTE -- Gravette Fire Chief David Orr died Saturday following a battle with cancer.
Orr died around 5:50 a.m. after fighting stage 4 cancer for several years, according to a statement from Billy Wade of 4 States Fire and Emergency Photography, a close associate of the chief.
The city of Gravette announced that flags would be flown at half-staff until Orr's interment to honor his contributions to the department and the community.
"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Chief David Orr," the Gravette Fire Department said in a statement. "Please keep his family and fire family in your prayers."
Orr's career in Gravette began in 1996 when he joined the department as a volunteer. After a hiatus, he returned in 2010 and rose through the ranks, serving as
